Mycotoxins

Mycotoxins are toxic chemicals produced by many types of fungi.

Neem is anti-fungal and anti-mycotoxin. It can be used on crops and animals to eliminate many mycotoxin-producing fungi. It can be used by people to help alleviate the symptoms of mycotoxin exposure.

Coffee
The green coffee is very suseptible to mould during storage.
Neem can be harvested and applied by coffee growers as a totally non-toxic alternative to conventional pesticides
neem eliminates fungi and associated mycotoxins

It would be great to see Neem used on coffee and other crops to reduce mycotoxins which cause countless diseases especially among farmers.  Here is a map showing come indication of world wide mycotoxin rates

BIOMIN Mycotoxin Survey Program 2011
Since 2005, BIOMIN has been conducting extensive studies documenting the occurrence of mycotoxins worldwide. The BIOMIN Mycotoxin Survey Program 2011, the most comprehensive report on the market, details the distribution of mycotoxins according to their region of origin and commodity type.

Mycotoxin World Map

More than 4,300 samples were collected from various countries over a 12-month period from January to December and 13,854 analyses were carried out to investigate the occurrence of aflatoxins (Afla), zearalenone (ZON), deoxynivalenol (DON), fumonisins (FUM) and/or ochratoxin A (OTA) in the different regions and feed materials.
More than 70 % of the samples were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), followed by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and the thin-layer chromatography (TLC) method.
Samples were classified firstly according to their region of origin, mainly by the Asia-Pacific (37 %), Europe, Africa and the Middle East (35 %), the Americas (27 %), and secondly by means of commodity types, ranging from raw materials like corn (33 %), wheat (9 %), barley (7 %) and soybean (5 %) to finished feed (25 %), silage (8 %) and other feed ingredients (13 %).

The EMAN exists to scientific information on mycotoxins, such as aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, trichothecenes (including deoxynivalenol or vomitoxin), fumonisins, zearalenone and ergot alkaloids, to industry, consumers, legislators and the scientific community.
They talk about the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point). 30 years ago in a collaboration between NASA, the Pillsbury company and the US army laboratories in a programme designed to ensure "absolute food safety" for US astronauts... concerned only with food safety, and not food quality as a whole.

Zearalenone is only partly decomposed by heat. Approximately 60% of zearalenone remained unchanged in bread while about 50% survived the production of noodles. In dry milling of maize, concentrations in the main food producing fractions including flour and grits, were reduced by 80-90% although increased concentrations were found in bran and germ. Extrusion cooking in spiked food grade corn grits has been shown to result in significant reduction of zearalenone with higher reductions of ZEN at 120 -140 ºC than at 160 ºC although the effect of moisture level on the reduction of ZEN was not significant. Wet milling of maize concentrates zearalenone in the gluten fraction by a factor between 2 and 7. Metabolism of zearalenone to related oestrogenic compounds can be caused by enzymic action or within livestock.
